Two Men Allegedly Caught With Khat At Bridge

St. Clair County Michigan officials say two men from Yemen were arrested at the Blue Water Bridge for allegedly being in possession of khat.

The Sheriff's Office Drug Task Force says the Border Enforcement Security Team found 192 g of khat in plant form and 27 g in powder form in a vehicle along with a large amount of American currency.

Authorities say the two men, aged 29 and 32, indicated they intended to stay in the U.S. on their way to Chicago but their GPS took them to the border crossing at Port Huron.

The two are facing charges of possession with the intent to deliver khat.

Khat is a flowering plant native to Africa and the Arabian Peninsula that is used as a stimulant and is a controlled substance in many countries.
