Street Hockey Challenge Changing Hands

The Sarnia 3 on 3 Street Hockey Challenge will have a bit of a different look as a new group takes over the annual event.

After running the event for six years, the Community Active Living Lambton, or CALL Committee, has handed it off to the local group behind the "That Night In Sarnia" event.

Spokesperson Aaron Zimmer says they wanted to make some small tweaks to the event, while continuing the tradition.

"We will be adding a licensed area to the event, we will be moving it from April to June to get a little bit more hot weather and the other thing we'll be doing is adding an elite division," says Zimmer. "We will invite teams that maybe have ex-junior or triple A players to compete against each other for cash prizes."

The group, consisting of Zimmer, John Hockin and Rob Jenkins, approached the previous organizers about renting their equipment to host a similar event in June.

Zimmer says that's when the CALL Committee told them they were looking for someone to take the event over.

Team Registration will get underway in May, but Zimmer says they are looking for sponsors and organizations looking to volunteer.

He says they will need anywhere from 40 to 60 volunteers for the tournament.
