After playing 250 games with the Sarnia Sting, Jeff King has made the most of his professional opportunities.
King was invited to Toronto Maple Leafs' Development Camp following his overage season, and managed to catch the eye of team staff. King's play at the week long camp earned him an invite to the team's camp in the fall.
"I feel like I did what I could to make an impression, and they said they like how I played. It's nice knowing I played well and they felt the same way."
It wasn't King's first taste of a pro camp, he attended Chicago Blackhawks' development and rookie camps in 2016. He says that experience helped him prepare for this years' camp.
"Chicago was a great experience, and I took what I learned from there into this camp, had a bit more idea of what to expect and what to prepare for."
Growing up as a fan of the Montreal Canadiens', King says he's more than open to trading the Canadiens' bleu, blanc and rouge for the blue and white of the Maple Leafs.
With his OHL career now officially over, King's options are relatively limited, he can either professionally, go to school, or call it a career entirely. He says playing professionally has always been his priority.
"When you have nowhere else to play next year you're definitely going to give it your all, I was happy to come back for my overage season, I think it's going to help my career in the long run, and so far so good."
King scored 14 goals with the Sting last season, he finished his career with 131 points in 250 regular season games as a member of the Sarnia Sting. He was selected by Sarnia in the tenth round of the 2012 draft and spent his first season of junior hockey with the GOJHL's Sarnia Leagionnaires.
After his Sting season came to an end, King signed a deal to finish the season with the Orlando Solar Bears, they are Toronto's ECHL affiliate.
