Inappropriate disposal of fire pit ashes is the suspected cause of a Fifth Wheel fire Monday afternoon at the Lorne C. Henderson Conservation Area.
Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department Chief Lawrence Swift says the 24 ft trailer sustained heavy interior smoke damage and is basically uninhabitable.
Chief Swift says care must be taken to ensure campfires are properly extinguished.
"The best way to put a campfire out is to use water, stir it around and make sure it's completely extinguished," says Swift. "If you just let it burn out, you need to dispose those embers or those ashes, in a steel container, away from an other combustibles."
Chief Swift says a damage estimate will be determined by the insurance company.
No one was injured.
