Old Building Restored At Ipperwash

It was built in the 1920s and became a landmark at Ipperwash Beach.

The Ipperwash Hotel was built by Nathaniel Dailey and Col. John Ross and later became Wallygators, but then fell into a state of disrepair.

Now, with the financial backing of a second generation Ipperwash property owner from Maryland, the building has been refurbished into the Ipperwash Beach Club.

Jim and Grace Dekker are operating the facility which will eventually include a coffee shop, 63 seat bar and restaurant, and three Airbnb rental units.

"We've renovated the entire property from top to bottom," Jim says. "It's put a lot of excitement back into the Ipperwash community. Our takeout ice cream parlour is open and we served 878 customers on Canada Day alone. Before the end of July we hope to open a coffee and pastry shop as well"

The bar/restaurant will open in early August.

Dekker says they hope to eventually employ over two dozen people.
