Habitat Presents Keys To Two New Watford Homes

Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton has handed the keys over to two new Watford homes.

Executive Director Sarah Reaume says 576 Scenic Dr. is now home to Amy Taylor and her two children, while Rebecca Bain and Tyler Norland are the proud owners of 578 Scenic Dr. The young parents have a son and are expecting another child later this year.

"I know the folks in Watford are glad to see young people settling in the community," says Reaume. "We're glad to help build this community and to help these two families into safe, decent and affordable home ownership."

Bain says their lives have been pretty hectic since finding out they would get a Habitat home last fall.

"We had to get our hours, I'm a student, a mom... it's been crazy and we're both working so it's taken up all of our time," says Bain. "It's beautiful, it's everything I wanted."

The homes are the first to be built with modular home builder Royal Homes.

They were built as part of this year's 34th annual Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter work project -- which focused on a Canada-wide initiative to see 150 homes built for 150 families to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday.

The Carters are in Edmonton and Winnipeg this week.

Jimmy Carter was taken to a Winnipeg hospital Thursday morning after becoming dehydrated while volunteering at a habitat building site.

Every year, the former US president and his wife choose a country to help with housing builds.
