County Exploring Possible Property Rights Council

Lambton County Council is considering establishing a property rights council.

Staff have been directed to prepare a report on the concept.

Former county councillor Elizabeth Davis-Dagg thinks it would be an "excellent source of public input into official plan decisions."

"I think at this point the public hasn't been fully informed and educated about what's been happening," says Davis-Dagg. "Also the decisions have been made by elected members only and there are a number of people that are informed in the public who can contribute to these decisions as well."

Davis-Dagg believes it would also be a good resource as a long standing committee.

"There are more and more intrusions into private property and I think we're going to see more discussions about this in the future," she says. "So, if we have a committee that's established as a point of appeal and advocacy for private property rights... then I believe it's going to help the economy thrive in Lambton County."

St. Clair Township Mayor Steve Arnold says he would like to see Sarnia-Lambton's MP and MPP represented on the property rights council if it is established.
