Golf Course Death The Result Of Workplace Injury

The Ontario Ministry of Labour has confirmed the death of a 58-year-old employee at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club Tuesday was the result of workplace injury.

Spokesperson Janet Deline says the ministry continues to investigate.

"The coroner has indeed confirmed this to be a workplace fatality, so it's within our jurisdiction," says Deline. "So far, we have no updates as to the status of the orders that we issued which are for some training records and documentation. Our investigation is still ongoing."

The ministry issued two orders to the Errol Rd. golf club, one for documents and the other to ensure a fallen tree that was being worked on at the time of the incident, is removed in a safe manner.

Deline says due to privacy legislation, the ministry is not at liberty to name the victim, but the Ontario Golf Superintendents' Association and area golf clubs are publicly acknowledging and mourning the loss of Paul Brown.

Funeral services for Mr. Brown are set for next week in Lindsay, Ontario.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Stoddart Funeral Home & Cremation Centre Wednesday, June 28 from 10am until 11am when a funeral mass will be held in the chapel.

Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Lindsay.

Paul Brown was hired in March 1997, coming to Sarnia from Maple Downs Golf and Country Club in Maple, Ontario where he also had served as superintendent.
