Focus Shifts To Boat Ramp Construction

Construction of a new boat ramp at Sarnia Bay Marina is the primary focus, now that Centennial Park has reopened.

Contractors and consultants have struggled with underwater construction material, which they say is making it difficult to block water flow needed for new construction.

Chief Administrative Officer Margaret Misek-Evans says contractors and staff were focused on finishing components within the park up until now.

"There's still some technical difficulties and client difficulties that need to be worked out, and we will actively pursue that now," says Misek-Evans.

She says it was never intended that there would be this much of a delay.

"We recognize and are very concerned about the boating community and certainly it's going to be our primary focus, starting this week, to move ahead with an answer on that and report back to council as soon as we can," says Misek-Evans.

Misek-Evans says project funding is still included in the original tender for the remediation of Centennial Park.

Area boaters are being accommodated at the Bridgeview Marina boat ramp until the new one at Sarnia Bay Marina is operational.

The total cost of remediation has reached $12-million.
