Ministry Investigating Workplace Death At Local Golf Club

Ontario's Labour Ministry continues to investigate a tragic death at Sarnia Golf and Curling Club Tuesday.

Sarnia police, fire and Lambton EMS responded to the club on Errol Rd. just after 1pm, after receiving a report that an employee working on a fallen tree had been found unconscious on the ground.

The 58-year-old man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Ministry spokesperson Janet Deline says they're still trying to determine exactly what happened.

"We are investigating," says Deline. "We can confirm that this is a fatality. We are waiting for results from the coroner to determine the cause of death. In the meantime, our investigation is ongoing."

Deline says the ministry has issued two orders to the golf club, one for documents and the other to ensure the fallen tree is removed in a safe manner.

No name has been released.

In a statement, the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club says it's grateful for the outpouring of support received from the community and industry partners during this difficult time.
