Sarnia Council Briefs

Development plans are on hold for the former ABC Daycare on London Rd.

Max Williams with the City of Sarnia Planning Department told council Monday a numbered Ontario company has withdrawn its application for a zoning bylaw amendment for the property.

Right now the property is zoned for two residential units and the applicant had wanted to increase that by four.

Council has tabled a public meeting on the rezoning until the applicant is ready to return to council.

The building at 811 London Rd. has sat empty since ABC Early Childhood Learning Centre moved to the former Coronation Park Day Nursery on Oak Ave. in June of 2016.

A development freeze in Bright's Grove will be lifted July 1.

Construction of the Bright's Grove Lagoon upgrades are complete and the new facilities are in operation.

During long, cold winters, the lagoons at one time struggled to contain all the wastewater and occasionally the water level reached unacceptable levels.

Acting Director of Engineering Mike Berkvens says the new system is meeting its desired objectives and they have no reason to doubt its ability to achieve similar results as the sewage flows increase due to new development.

Sarnia council has received the draft tree bylaw for information and consideration of adopting at a future council meeting.

Planning staff have been directed to circulate it for public review and comment until this fall.

Paddy Flaherty's Irish Pub will be allowed to crank the tunes on a trial basis this summer.

Sarnia council has approved a temporary noise bylaw exemption for six events.

Staff have also been directed to conduct a review of the noise bylaw and produce a report on potential amendments.
