UPDATE: Incident At Blue Water Bridge Resolved

An incident involving a distraught person that closed the westbound Blue Water Bridge for a few hours Thursday was successfully resolved over the noon hour.

The OPP were able to talk an individual back over the railing to safety at about 12:15pm.

The incident that began just before 10am turned the Hwy. 402 approach to the bridge into a parking lot and police closed the westbound lanes of the highway at Mandaumin Rd. The area beneath the bridge in Point Edward was also sealed off.

Lambton OPP Constable Chris Doupe confirmed the incident has been successfully concluded.

He says the Federal Bridge Corporation had been using the eastbound bridge for traffic in both directions for awhile but that reverted back to the normal use of both bridges and the westbound 402 was reopened.

The westbound span became fully operational at 1:45pm but the backlog of traffic was expected to take some time to clear.
