Legionnaires Announce Upcoming Golf Tournament

The Sarnia Legionnaires hockey club is holding the 2017 Sharon Williamson Memorial Golf Classic at Greenwood July 22.

The event, named after General Manager Bob Williamson's late wife, is a way for the team to raise funds for player projects and activities.

Former player Tyler Peters, whose family owns Greenwood, says it's great to give back to the team.

"With us having the golf course, and them wanting to raise money to support the kids, it seems like a perfect fit," he says.  "The price of sticks and equipment can be a lot and some kids have a tough time affording all that, so we're really happy to help any way we can."

Peters, who also played for the Sarnia Sting and Western University, had his number 79 retired by the Legionnaires. He says it's an honour to have his number retired by an organization that means so much to him.

"It's been almost ten years since I've played, and to see all the staff again is great, its been a couple years since I've seen any of them but it feels like family once you see them again," says Peters. "They gave me a call a few weeks back and threw out the idea that they'd like to retire my jersey. It's an unbelievable feeling to have that happen and I'm just so honoured."

Registration for the tournament is $100 per golfer and includes 18 holes with a power cart, and a steak dinner.
