Sting Sign 2017 Pick Justin McCombs

The Sarnia Sting have locked up another player from the 2017 OHL draft.

The club has announced the signing of forward Justin McCombs to a Standard Player Agreement and Education Package. He was chosen 48th overall, and was the second of the team's three third round selections.

Due to injury, the left-shot centreman only appeared in 16 games for the Kitchener Jr. Rangers last season. In those 16 contests, the Rangers' captain posted seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points. In 13 post-season games, McCombs would rack up five goals and 17 points.

McCombs, who represented Team Alliance at the 2017 OHL Gold Cup, opened the tournament with a hat-trick against Team NOHA. He would finish the tournament with four goals in five games and tie fellow Sting prospect Jamieson Rees for second in tournament goal scoring.

Sting GM Nick Sinclair is pleased to have McCombs in the fold.

“Justin is a skilled and crafty player that had many options on his plate," says Sinclair. "We are excited that he and his family have decided that the Ontario Hockey League and more specifically, the Sting organization, is the best route for his development as a player and as a student. We are excited to work with Justin going forward so that he can ultimately evolve into an everyday player in our league.”

McCombs' signing follows commitments from 2017 picks Jamieson Rees, Alexandre Hogue, and Brayden Guy.
