New Retirement Living Complex Open In Corunna

What's being called a first of its kind retirement community, is now open on Bunker Ave. in Corunna.

Wellings of Corunna offers 132 rental apartments with residents able to choose and then pay for the level of care they need.

Nautical Lands Group Marketing Vice President Natalie Tommy says the four-storey complex offers active adults the opportunity to downsize on their own terms.

"As far as we know there is no other adult lifestyle community that features atrium living," she says. "The 8,000 sq ft open space is four stories high and the majority of the apartments look out onto this space. People are saying it feels as if they're on a cruise ship or down south on vacation because it's so open and bright."

Tommy says Paramed, a division of Extendicare, is able to provide everything from running errands and housekeeping to a full level of care.

"There is care there, but if you don't use it, you don't pay for it," she says. "We do rental apartments on a month-to-month lease. It's not assisted living. It's not a traditional retirement residence model at all."

Rents for one bedroom apartments begin at $1,995 monthly. There are also one bedrooms plus den, and two-bedroom condo style apartments, full-sized kitchens, nightly meals, concierge service and a full sized gym.

An open house is planned for May 27. Further information can be found at http://wellingsofcorunna.com
