Mayor Disappointed To See Junior Team Leave

The mayor of Lambton Shores is disappointed to see the Junior 'B' Predators could be leaving Forest.

Middlesex Centre is currently in negotiations with the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League team for a long term lease, which would see the club move to Komoka for the next season.

Mayor Bill Weber says they worked closely with the Predators since the team moved to Forest from Petrolia in 2008. Between minor hockey and ringette, he doesn't foresee the move having a major impact on the community.

"We still have a very active minor hockey association and I'm sure they will continue to work very hard," says Weber. "Silver Stick is also very big in Forest, Thedford and other arenas, so there will still be a lot of hockey in Lambton Shores."

Weber says the municipality isn't closing any doors on a junior team moving to Forest in the future.

"We're always open to options, if someone wanted to bring a team in I'm sure we'd look at it and be willing to work with them," he says.

The Predators had been playing out of the Shores Recreation Centre in Forest since the team relocated from Petrolia prior to the 2008-2009 season.

The move is pending Middlesex Centre Council approval with a decision expected at its June 21 meeting.
