The Town of Petrolia is expanding on a pilot project introduced by Lambton County and the City of Sarnia by installing publicly available charge stations for power wheelchairs and scooters.
Eleven charge stations are being installed this week at Victoria Hall, The Petrolia Farmers' Market, The Oil Heritage District Community Centre, Greenwood Recreation Centre, Hogan Pharmacy, Crabby Joe's, The Olde Post Office Shoppe, The Central Lambton Family Health Team, Heidi's Your Independent Grocer and the Petrolia Library.
The designated outlets are blue in colour and have identifying signs on both the outside and outlet location.
Lambton County and the City of Sarnia have been recognized by the Ontario Municipal Social Service Association for the program.
They've been named co-recipients of the peer-nominated Municipal Accessibility Award and will showcase the joint pilot project at the OMSSA's Leadership Symposium in Toronto May 28-30.
The designated outlets are found in 12 different locations in Sarnia and Point Edward.
