The 2017 OPP Drive Safe R.I.D.E Campaign is underway.
Lambton OPP Constable Travis Parsons says the province-wide campaign is reminding motorists to move over for emergency vehicles, including tow trucks, at collision scenes.
"The move over legislation is in place to not only protect the officers or tow truck operators on highways, but also ensure that motorists driving on those highways do so as safely as possible," says Parsons.
Penalties and fines for failing to move over for an emergency vehicle range from $400 to $2,000 for a first offence, and possible suspension of your driver's licence for a subsequent offence.
He says more pedestrians and cyclists are also out now that the weather has warmed up, and reminds drivers to share the road with them too.
According to Ontario Provincial Police, 94 pedestrians died in Ontario collisions in 2014 and over 3,500 were injured.
The campaign wraps up May 22.
