Calling All Student Filmmakers

The Lambton Youth Short Film Competition is accepting submissions to be judged at the Lambton Food and Film Festival (LaFFF).

"We are looking forward to a great make of films," says LaFFF committee member Scott Ferguson. "We have some pretty talented students in the community and they never fail to to surprise us with the quality of the work they produce."

Ferguson says this year they hope to surpass last years 23 entries.

Films are to be a maximum of three minutes and can enter into five categories including comedy, animation, drama, Canada 150, and Franco Fier.

"We are are hoping to get some bilingual entries this year with the competition now having two french schools participating."

This is the first year that the Franco Fier category has been opened for bilingual entries.

Ferguson also hopes the Canada 150 category will have entries that show Canadian culture and heritage to celebrate Canada's sesquicentennial.

Another first for the competition is opening up to high school students in St.Clair County, Michigan.

"The judges are looking for creativity. We want students to have fun doing it, we don't want this to be equivalent to doing homework."

Ferguson also adds many past participants have used their submissions in applications for post-secondary education.

All participants are required to be in high school and are not limited to an amount for submissions. Submissions will be received until May 19th.

This year Lambton Film and Food Festival will be held on May 25th-28th. More information on how to submit can be found on ForestFestivals.ca
