Sting Hire Skills Coach

The Sarnia Sting have hired Scott Jones as the team's director of skill and player development.

Jones has worked with prospects like Travis Konecny, Bo Horvat and Lawson Crouse through his involvement with Total Package Hockey in London.

He says he's thrilled to be joining the Sting organization.

“This is a very exciting day for both Total Package Hockey and myself. The Sting organization, under the leadership of Derian and David, as well as General Manager Nick Sinclair, is first class and the family-like atmosphere is very welcoming," says Jones. "I look forward to working with the coaches and management on furthering the players’ development, creating more winning seasons and future professional players. With this partnership I also hope to create more development opportunities for the younger players in the Lambton area through the Sting and Total Package Hockey.”

Jones has been coaching and training hockey players for over 15 years, and is currently the skills coach with the Washington Capitals.

He gained the majority of his player development experience during his time as a player development consultant with the Hershey Bears; the Capitals’ AHL affiliate.

Sting GM Nick Sinclair says Jones will fit in well with the team.

“We’re excited to add a coach of Scott’s caliber to our staff," says Sinclair. "As we continuously work to enhance our overall program, we felt that it was very important that we bring in someone to focus solely on skill and player development. Scott’s overall experience and passion for the game will be a welcome addition to our hockey operations group.”
