Sarnia's Sydney Caron Commits To Davenport

Sarnia's Sydney Caron will be playing division one hockey for Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan beginning in the fall.

The 18-year-old defenceman signed the commitment papers after a strong showing at the team's prospects camp.

Caron says Head Coach Kurt Carter was impressed with her skills after just 15 minutes on the ice.

She says Davenport has a real family atmosphere.

"It becoming pretty real to me that I'm going to university for hockey," says Caron. "The campus is beautiful and I was looking for something that felt like home and somewhere that I felt comfortable going to that wasn't out of my range. When I went there, all of the girls were just so welcoming and everything fit with everything that I had on my list to check off and I just fit right in."

Caron says she had interest from about nine other schools.

"The other schools were fantastic, I went to Michigan State University and University of Michigan, and those are big schools that are well-known in Michigan," says Caron. "But, I fell in love with Davenport. I went to skate with both MSU and U of M and their coaches were so nice and the girls were wonderful but it just didn't compare to the atmosphere at Davenport."

Caron went to Great Lakes Secondary School, and also spent this past season with the Sarnia Midget A Lady Jr. Sting.

Off the ice, she'll be taking digital forensic science with the hope of becoming a police officer.
