Impact Day At St. Pat's

Students and staff entering St Patrick's High School in Sarnia will be greeted by a sobering scene Monday.

A mock accident will be enacted as a real-life depiction of the fatal consequences of distracted or careless driving.

It's part of Impact Day, a trauma prevention program created and supported by London Health Sciences.

The presentation, in partnership with Lambton Safe Roads Committee, includes firsthand accounts of the social, economic and health outcomes of risk-taking behaviours such as distracted driving, and drug and alcohol abuse.

Principal Robert Cicchelli says the program is designed to speak directly to high school students and to provide them with the necessary tools to make informed decisions.

"We know this is valuable information for teenagers," he says. "Some parts of the message may be difficult to hear so we will have councillors on hand for any students who may need additional support during any part of the presentations."

Councillors will also be on hand for students who may need additional support.
