Hwy. 402 Underpass Rehabilitation Planned For 2018

The City of Sarnia has been updated on the rehabilitation of the Blackwell Rd., Airport Rd. and Waterworks Rd. underpasses on Hwy. 402.

Work is expected to begin in the spring of 2018, subject to funding approvals, and wrap up by the fall of next year.

The scope of the work at all three is generally the same and will include removing barrier walls on wingwalls and the ends of the bridge deck, removal of asphalt on the bridges and repaving.

Both Blackwell Rd. and Airport Rd will be open for the duration of construction, but will be reduced to one lane using temporary traffic signals. No ramp closures are anticipated at Airport Rd.

Waterworks Rd underpass will be fully closed for the duration of construction, and rehabilitation is expected to take four months from June to September 2018.

A signed detour route will be in place following Lakeshore Rd., Mandaumin Rd. and London Line with access for residents and farm fields maintained throughout construction.

The work is part of the Transportation Ministry's plan to rehabilitate or replace 39 structures in southwestern Ontario.
