New Launch For Salmon Derby

Bridgeview Marina has stepped up to assist participants in this years Salmon Derby.

Boaters will be able to dock, launch or stack their vessels there free of charge during the ten-day event, which runs April 28 until May 7.

Rob Harwood, Sarnia's director of parks and recreation, says construction continues on Sarnia's new boat launch at Centennial Park, so this is a collaborative effort to make sure the event still runs smoothly.

"We've been working quite closely with Dave Brown from Bridgeview Marina, and of course Dave runs the Sarnia Bay Marina as well," says Harwood. "Obviously the Bluewater Anglers Salmon Derby is very important to the community, so we wanted to make sure that we had adequate boat launch availability for it."

Salmon Derby participants will have access to the single boat ramp at the Bridgeview Marina, located at the end of Venetian Blvd., across from Purdy's Fisheries.

Harwood says attendants will be present to assist with traffic control and the launching of boats. A free lift will be available for vessels too large to use the ramp.

Participants have been asked to reserve their free dock for the Salmon Derby by calling the marina at 1-800-265-0330 or 519-337-3888.

Due to the construction around Sarnia Bay and the decision to dock boats at Bridgeview Marina, the Sarnia weigh station has been relocated for this years event to the marina's parking lot on Venetian Blvd., between Venetian Village and the Holiday Inn.

Construction of Sarnia's new boat launch is hoped to be complete by June 2.
