Sarnia Sting Hold Orientation Camp

The Sarnia Sting's orientation camp is being held this weekend.

Members of the 2016 and 2017 OHL draft classes and free agents will take part in the two day camp at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

Sting GM Nick Sinclair says it's a chance for the young players to get familiar with each other, and the city.

"It is nice when they come back to the main camp in August, when all of the older players are here, that they have a bit of a relationship with some of the younger guys their age," says Sinclair. "It just helps with their comfort level with everything. We want them to be as comfortable as possible and that's usually when you usually see the best results."

Sinclair says the orientation camp is a good measuring tool for team staff.

"No one is going to make the team this weekend or play themselves off of it," says Sinclair. "But, it is a chance to come into the city, get acclimated, and just have a bit more of a comfort level for when they come back."

This year's crop of players is highlighted by first round pick Jamieson Rees.

Local talent includes goalie Jakob Knowles, Nolan DeGurse, Cameron Rombouts, Joel Pavey and Wes Dobbin.

Team Black and White practice sessions are scheduled for 10am Saturday. There are scrimmages at 7pm Saturday, and 10am Sunday.

Admission is free for fans who want to come and check out the action.
