Sarnia Police Lay Human Trafficking Charges

Sarnia police have arrested two men from Peel Region in a human trafficking investigation involving a 19-year-old woman.

On March 23, the Criminal Investigation Branch was given information by Lambton OPP about a potential victim who was forced to work as an escort in the sex trade industry in various Ontario cities, most recently Sarnia.

Ian Anthony Green, 25, faces human trafficking and several other related charges and 22-year-old Shaquwone Rose is charged with human trafficking and breach of probation.

Constable John Sottosanti says the victim, who is not from the Sarnia area, is safe and police have done their very best to ensure her continued safety.

"Unfortunately these victims are very fearful of coming forward because these traffickers have so much control over their lives, they take away passports and control all their money," says Sottosanti. "After a short time the victims are so dependent and fearful of these traffickers that they dare not say or do anything."

The two suspects were being held pending bail hearings.

Anyone with information about the investigation or other incidents of human trafficking should contact police or Crime Stoppers.
