Youth And Seniors Drop-In Centre To Open In Petrolia

There will soon be a new place for teens and seniors in Petrolia.

A youth and senior drop-in centre at the "Blue House" at the corner of Robert St. and Centre St. is scheduled to open in May.

Community Services Director Dave Menzies says the youth centre is geared for those in grades six through ten.

"We'll start out with video games, foosball, ping pong, air hockey, computers, wifi and more," he says. "The target group is youth in Grades 6 through 10. The youth hours will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 3:30pm until 8pm with recreation nights on Fridays from 6:30pm until 8:30pm."

There is an annual registration fee of $30 and provisions will be made for those unable to pay.

Seniors will be welcome to drop by from 11am until 2pm Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays at no cost and various programs will be offered, including health and social services, hearing device information, home care service information and arts and crafts. Boomers Plus will continue at the Centre on Thursdays at 11am

The centre will be run Thera Wagner, programs coordinator at the Oil Heritage District Community Centre.
