New Green Biofuel Plant To Set Up Shop In St. Clair Township

St. Clair Township's mayor says his municipality is well prepared to welcome more green energy based companies.

Steve Arnold's comments come on the heels of an announcement that Alberta-based Forge Hydrocarbons plans to spend $25-million on a renewable diesel fuel manufacturing facility at the BIOX Corporation site on Holt Line near Sombra.

"We've been working very hard to make sure we continue to expand the municipal infrastructure as well, everything from water and sewer to high speed internet," he says. "A site like this one has everything in place and it's just a matter of doing the conversion for them, so it is a good fit."

Arnold says about 200 construction jobs will be created when work on the new Forge plant begins hopefully by this fall.

Around 15 to 25 full-time positions will be created.

The facility will convert animal fat and crop seed oil into renewable diesel fuel that President Tim Haig says will create 90% less greenhouse gases than conventional diesel.

The plant will be Forge Hydrocarbon's first commercial scale manufacturing facility

The company received $4.2-million from Sustainable Development Technology Canada, a government foundation that helps fund new clean technologies.
