Theatre Sarnia Plans To 'Raise The Roof' In Guelph

Theatre Sarnia plans to literally "raise the roof" in Guelph this week.

The amateur theatre groups production of the Willow Quartet is one of five entries competing in the Western Ontario Drama League Festival.

The play, written by Joan Burrows, tells the story of a couple who separates after a tragedy and struggles to cope with unresolved grief.

Director Jay Peckham says work is being done to move the set.

"For this particular play that's one of the hardest parts of this, is the fact that we built a house," says Peckham. "Our set is the outdoor front porch of a house and we actually have to build it in a modular way to be able to put it up and tear it down. The interesting part is that the Guelph theatre stage is not the same dimensions as the Imperial Theatre. We're lucky here in Sarnia to have such a large stage. We actually have to modify our set to make it smaller in order to fit on the Guelph stage."

Peckham says they will perform March 15 at 8pm at Guelph's Little Theatre. Tickets are available at www.guelphlittletheatre.com

Awards are to be presented the following Saturday, with the winning play moving on to compete in the Theatre Ontario Festival in Ottawa in mid-May.

In 2016, Theatre Sarnia's 33 Variations was named best production at the WODL Festival.

In 2015, "The Clean House" was named best production and went on to capture top honours at the Theatre Ontario Festival.
