Hit-And-Run Driver Arrested

A 19-year-old Bright's Grove man has been arrested in connection with hit-and-run crashes that caused $50,000 damage early Sunday morning in Sarnia.

Sarnia police say around 4am, a black Ford F150 pickup truck speeding east on Exmouth St. mounted the curb, and sheared off a street light and hydro pole at Barclay Dr.

The vehicle continued east to Old Exmouth St. where another street light was sheared off and a grey traffic control box was destroyed. Police say the truck, which had been reported stolen earlier, ended up in a ditch and the driver fled on foot.

Police later located a suspect in the area of Lambton Mall Rd.

Mike Bos is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and failing to stop at the scene of a crash. Bos was later released on a promise to appear for a future court date.

Bluewater Power CEO Janice McMichael-Dennis says "the damage to infrastructure was significant including poles, a traffic light controller, which is an expensive piece of equipment that was literally shattered to pieces, and various other assets right at the intersection. So very significant asset damage as well as significant manpower required to put everything back together."

McMichael-Dennis says utility crews were on scene for about 18 hours.

Parts of Exmouth St. and Barclay Dr. were closed until repairs were complete and power had been restored to the surrounding area.
