Sarnia High Ties Record for February 19

Sarnia almost broke a temperature record for the second straight day Sunday.

The official temperature reading at Chris Hadfield Airport was 13.2 C (56F), which tied the record set exactly one year ago.  Records were first kept in 1968.

Saturday was the warmest February 18 in Sarnia in nearly 70 years with the mercury hitting 14 C (57 F) at 12pm, surpassing the previous record high of 13.3 C, set in 1949.  It peaked at 4pm at 18.9 C (66 F).

The temperature is forecast to dip back into single digits Family Day Monday but still remain several degrees above the February norm of 1 C.

Environment Canada says an unseasonably mild air mass, coupled with a jet stream positioned farther north than usual for this time of year, will dominate our weather through most of next week.

The spring-like conditions will continue with forecast highs back in the double digits through Thursday.
