Petrolia Volunteers Recognized

The Town of Petrolia honoured its volunteers at its annual appreciation dinner February 16

Volunteer of the Year awards were presented by Mayor John McCharles in four categories.

The Sports and Recreation award went to Don Harding who not only gives his time to the Petrolia Minor Hockey Organization and the figure skating club, but drives the float for Santa Claus in the annual parade.

Carol Watt was recognized in the Community Service category for her dedication to the Central Petrolia Optimist Club, and St. Paul's United Church.

Jane and Bill Cadman are the first couple to receive the Community Partnership distinction. They are not only tireless volunteers with the Rotary Club but are also avid CEE Hospital supporters.

The Arts and Culture award recognized Diane O'Dell and Ruth Brown for their roles as the founding directors of the Lambton Youth Choir and dedication to Victoria Playhouse.

Doug Clark was specially recognized for his long-time work in a number of areas, with Mayor McCharles saying the value for every 100 volunteers is just over the equivalent of $350,000 in man hours.
