County Pushes For Improvements Along Waterfront Trail

The County of Lambton is hopeful improvements will be made along a 12 km stretch of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail.

A delegation met with members of the Ontario Transportation Ministry (MTO) Monday to draw attention to safety concerns on Hwy. 21 between Army Camp Rd. and Greenway Rd.

Warden Bill Weber says paved shoulders are needed to better accommodate cyclists.

"The MTO is quite supportive of Cycling Ontario and the trail system that's in place," says Weber. "We had a positive meeting with some good feedback from them. They're concerned and certainly promote this enhancement to the trail."

Weber says the MTO didn't commit to any improvements or funding but he adds it's important to put it on their radar.

The trail stretches over 1,600 km along the Canadian shores of Lakes Ontario, Erie, St. Clair, and Huron as well as the Niagara, Detroit, St. Clair and St. Lawrence Rivers.

The meeting was held at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association's (ROMA) annual conference in Toronto.
