Rainfall Warning Issued

A mix of precipitation, potentially heavy rain, and near record high temperatures are on the way.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Sarnia-Lambton, London-Middlesex, Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex.

Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says rain, heavy at times, is expected to begin early Tuesday morning and end in the evening hours.

"We're going to see the continuation of the rain into Tuesday evening, Tuesday night and that is going to push the Sarnia area up over the winter time rainfall criteria," says Coulson. "This time of year with the ground frozen, it doesn't really allow any of the water to soak in, so during the winter time the criteria used for a rainfall warning is if the forecasters believe 25 mm (1 in) or more of rain will fall in 24 hours or less."

Rainfall amounts up to 35 mm are possible and there may be a brief period of freezing rain overnight or very early Tuesday morning before the rain begins.

It will be windy and unseasonably mild Tuesday with a forecast high of 9 C (48 F).

The standing record high for February 7 is 9 C set in 2009.
