Home Invasion Suspect Arrested In Point Edward

Sarnia police arrested a suspect Sunday night after OPP had maintained a heavy police presence in Point Edward for much of New Year's Day.

On Sunday morning at about 3:30am city police responded to the 1100 block of Overlea Cres. to investigate a home invasion involving weapons.

The initial investigation led officers to the 300 block of Alexandra Ave. in Point Edward in coordination with Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police.

Alexandra Ave. was closed between St. Clair St. and Albert St. for 9 1/2 hours but after an extensive search no suspect was found and the area was cleared at around 2:30pm. OPP resources dispatched to the scene included the tactics and rescue unit, emergency response team and canine unit.

At around 8:20pm Sunday, members of the city police service returned to the 300 block of Alexandra Ave. and executed a search warrant.

A 30-year-old male suspect was located in the residence and arrested in connection with the home invasion on Overlea Cres. He was being held pending a bail hearing on numerous criminal code charges. His name has not yet been released.
