The Push For Change Visits Lambton College

The "Push for Change" visited Lambton College Monday.

"If something is predictable... it's preventable."

That was one of many inspirational messages Joe Roberts passed along to students during his presentation on youth homelessness in Canada.

Roberts is a former homeless youth turned businessman who is pushing a shopping cart across the country to bring awareness and push for prevention models in schools.

"Anytime you get an opportunity to speak in a high school or a post secondary education like Lambton, you get an opportunity to plant seeds," says Roberts.

He was pleased to see Social Service Worker and Police Foundations students in attendance.

"Getting them to invest in the idea of possibility in people, I think it's absolutely key. To see beyond the behavior or circumstances and actually take a step backwards and ask 'What happened before that happened?' when we do that, we begin to build a more empathic society."

On day 218 of his journey, Roberts has worn through 10 pairs of running shoes walking 4,119 km.

He says the remaining 5,000 km will be the most difficult, as they walk into the Canadian winter in northern Ontario.
