Maroons Top Legionnaires 5-2

The Sarnia Legionnaires (16-12-0-0) fell 5-2 to the visiting Chatham Maroons (17-6-0-1) Thursday night for their third straight loss.

Chatham got off to a quick start with three first period goals off the sticks of Bobby Harrison, Nolan VandenBoorn, and Cory Lucier.

Harrison scored his second of the game just 5:09 into the second frame to pull Chatham ahead 4-0.

Yianni Skropolis notched his first as a Legionnaire to break the shutout and make it a 4-1 hockey game after two periods. His second of the game midway through the third pulled Sarnia to within two goals, but Josh King sealed the Maroons victory with an empty netter with just 32 seconds remaining on the clock.

Sarnia was held scoreless on three powerplay chances and killed off their only penalty against.

Legionnaires goalie Jorgen Johnson stopped 27 of 31 shots while Brendan Johnston made 25 saves on 27 shots against in the Chatham net.

Sarnia returns to action December 6 at home to the Leamington Flyers on CHOK. And the Maroons head to Lambton Shores on Saturday to battle the Predators.
