Lambton College To 'Train' Future Conductors

Lambton College will offer a railway conductor program in the new year.

The campus was selected as one of only a handful of Canadian colleges to offer the training program.

Learning and Training Solutions Manager Andre Ouellete says students enrolled in the 12 week program will learn to utilize professional railway communications and gain a deeper understanding of industry rules and regulations.

"Learn all of the signals, learn all the regulations, learn all of the activities," says Ouellette. "There is a 20% component that's hands on that they will be practicing on actual rail cars through observation and through actual hands on movement."

Ouellette says the program was developed by industry experts in cooperation with the Railway Association of Canada.

He says graduates can expect to find employment on Class 1 railways, shortlines, regional carriers and in industrial settings.

Registration is currently open for the program scheduled to start in January.
