Northern Girls Basketball At OFSAA

The Northern Girls Basketball team plays Ottawa Glebe at noon Thursday to open the OFSAA Senior 'AAA' girls basketball championships in Toronto.

The Vikings are ranked third in the tournament, while Ottawa is ranked ninth.

Head Coach John Thrasher expects his team to battle nerves early in the tournament.

"We want everyone to touch the ball early, you can't just come down and make one pass and shoot the ball, or try and make a big spectacular play," says Thrasher. "So if early in the game we can get everybody to touch to ball, it will help us relax and slow us down a bit."

Thrasher says the Vikings will need a complete effort to have success.

"That is what we do to people, we wear them down because we never stop moving," he says. "That's who we are, we just keep going and going. We don't slow down and other teams tend to slow down late in games, so we've won quite a few games in the fourth quarter like that."

The Vikings won a previous match up between the two teams earlier this season in tournament play.

Hamilton St Mary's is ranked number first among the 16 teams at OFSAA, St. Josephs from Toronto second.

The Vikings went 14-0 through LKSSAA play this season.
