Sting Rebound Against Rangers

After a disappointing home ice loss Sunday, the Sarnia Sting rebounded with a solid 5-3 win over the Kitchener Rangers before a crowd of 2,290 at Progressive Auto Sales Arena Wednesday night.

Jordan Kyrou led the Sting attack with a goal midway through the third period that proved to be the game winner. The St. Louis Blues prospect also had two assists and was named the game's first star. Sarnia jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Brady Hinz and Franco Sproviero and were nursing a 2-1 lead heading into the final period.

After Kitchener tied the game seven minutes into the third, Nikita Korostelev restored the Sting's lead with a wrist shot to the top corner for his team-leading 13th goal of the season. Kyrou would make it 4-2, converting a nice feed from Kevin Spinozzi, but the Rangers would cut the lead to one again with just over five minutes left. Adam Ruzicka, however, banged home a rebound less than a minute later to put the game away.

Sproviero also had an assist on Korostelev's goal and was named second star and Ruzicka had a two point night, assisting on Kyrou's game winner.

Sarnia outshot the Rangers 36-28. Justin Fazio recorded his tenth win of the season while Dawson Carty took the loss in goal for the Rangers.

The Sting (10-5-1) snap a two game losing skid and move into a first place tie with Sault Ste. Marie atop the OHL West Division. The Sting are home to the Greyhounds Friday night and travel to Owen Sound for a game against the Attack Saturday night. Listen to all the action on 103.9 FM, 1070 AM, CHOK.
