Local MPP Concerned About PTSD Program Cancellation

Concerns are being expressed over the impending cancellation of the Workplace Traumatic Stress Program at London Health Sciences Centre.

The program is scheduled to be axed December 2 to combat an annual operating shortfall of $500,000.

Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey brought the issue up at Queen's Park Thursday.

He says many people from the Sarnia area access the program. Without it, he says they'll have to go to Toronto for care.

"We just voted in April, and all three parties supported supporting Ontario's first responders," says Bailey.

"Ontario has over 73,000 first responders and a number of them are dealing with PTSD and so we need these services. The minister came back to me and said he'd look into it, but we're keeping pressure on this government."

Bailey says hospitals should be compensated for PTSD service by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board so it doesn't impact their budgets.
