Sting Top Rangers In Shootout

The Sarnia Sting were able to come away with a 6-5 shootout win in Kitchener Friday night, despite being out shot 51-29.

Justin Fazio's busiest period was the opener, stopping 22 of 24 shots he faced. Sarnia rookie Sean Josling scored his first OHL goal as the Sting trailed 2-1 through 20.

Nikita Korostelev's fifth of the season tied the game 7:06 into the second period. The offence picked up later in the frame, with both teams combing for four goals in just over three minutes. Kitchener's Jacob Cascagnette scored a pair of goals 25 seconds apart to give the Rangers a two goal advantage. Then Brady Hinz scored 15 seconds after that to trim the lead to one. Korostelev tied the game 2:30 later with his second of the contest.

Sting Assistant Coach Brad Staubitz says the team showed a lot of resilience in the second period.

"It was back and forth hockey, we had a slow start but got together and fought back, and we were able to leave with two points."

Jaden Lindo's third goal of the season gave Sarnia their only lead of the hockey game nine minutes into the third. Kitchener's Jeremy Bracco, making his season debut, tied the game with under five minutes left in regulation. The goal capped off a three point night for the Toronto Maple Leafs prospect.

Neither team found the back of the net in overtime.

Fazio turned aside Joseph Garreffa and Jeremy Bracco, while Nikita Korostelev and Jordan Kyrou both scored for the Sting.

Staubitz says they found a way to get the two points.

"It was an excited finish, we clawed out way back into the game and competed hard," says Staubitz. "It was a great effort by everyone, especially Fazio."

The win improves Sarnia's record to 4-1-1-0. They host the Peterborough Petes Saturday night in their only other game of the weekend.
