Sting Loses Second Straight, 4-3 to Soo in OT

Otto Makinen scored at just 47 seconds into overtime to give the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds a 4-3 win over the Sarnia Sting at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

The overtime winner capped a comeback for the Greyhounds from a 3-1 deficit early in the third period.

There was no scoring in the first period, though both teams had power play chances during the period.  The Sting had one extra-man advantage while the Hounds had two.  Hayden Verbeek opened the scoring in the second period for Sault Ste. Marie with his second of the season.  Sarnia would tie it up later in the period on a power-play tally from Kevin Spinozzi, his third goal of the season.

The Sting would put some distance behind them in the third on two more answered goals.  Anthony Salinitri's goal at 5:23 into the third was his first of the year and unassisted.  35 seconds later, Troy Lajeunesse would put it in the net to give Sarnia a 3-1 advantage.

The Sting's Jeff King would be sent to the penalty box on an unsportsmanlike conduct, leading to David Miller's fifth season goal to close the gap for Sault Ste. Marie.  Tim Gettinger got the equalizer with 1:05 left in regulation to force overtime and set up the winning goal by Makinen.

Jordan Kyrou picked up two assists for the Sting.  Boris Katochuk got three for the Hounds.  Justin Fazio had 35 saves for the Sting in the loss.

The Sting will try to recover from the two straight weekend losses on Friday night when they travel to Kitchener.
