Future Of Several Sarnia Schools Under Review

The Lambton Kent District School Board has scheduled a special meeting Tuesday, October 4, to discuss the annual pupil accommodation report.

Superintendent of Education Gary Girardi says it will be an updated version of the document presented in November 2015, focusing on the projections of the boards finances and demographics.

He says the board continues to look at consolidations at the elementary level.

"In terms of consolidations we also will deliver any initial staff reports to trustees and trustees would then vote as to whether or not to proceed with the initial staff reports in terms of pupil accommodations," says Girardi.

Options include the possible closure of London Rd., Lakeroad, Queen Elizabeth II and Confederation Central elementary schools.

Students would be sent to other schools or a newly built one proposed on board-owned land in Sherwood Village.

Consolidating the French Immersion program at Errol Rd. Public School is another consideration.

The special meeting October 4, at the Sarnia Education Centre, is scheduled to begin at 6pm.
