We Care Packages For Local Health Agencies

For a second year, the Sarnia Lambton Suicide Prevention Committee has created 125 "We Care Packages" to be distributed to local health agencies.

Committee Volunteer Cathy Butler says the packages are intended for youth who've entered into a mental healthcare system in Lambton County, to offer them support while they seek help.

Butler says each package includes water, snacks and other items to keep them busy while they wait.

"Some of the youth who had been through the emergency departments and admitted to stay overnight at the hospital wished they had toiletries," says Butler. "Shampoo, soap, tooth brush, tooth paste, that kind of thing. They said that it would be very helpful."

Funding from the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth pays for the cost of the packages.

They've been sent to Bluewater Health, St. Clair Child and Youth, Rebound Sarnia-Lambton, and to the mental health and addiction nurses at both local school boards.
