Sting Battle Back To Beat The Attack

A pair of third period goals helped the Sarnia Sting secure their second win of the season, a 3-2 decision over the Owen Sound Attack.

For the second straight game, the Sting played a scoreless opening period.

Jordan Ernst opened the scoring with his first OHL goal, a power play marker 1:39 into the middle stanza. Owen Sound responded immediately, with Matthew Struthers finding the net just 25 seconds later.

The Attack pulled ahead in the period's final minute as Nick Suziki potted a power play goal with 18 seconds remaining.

Sarnia rallied early in the third period, finding production from a first year fouward and fourth year defenceman. Overager Jeff King scored his first of the season, followed by 16-year-old Brady Hinz's first OHL goal, both in the opening five minute.

Sting Assistant Coach Jeff Barratt says a strong third period really made a difference.

"We were down there in the third, but we came back and scored two big goals." says Barratt. "Then a tremendous penalty kill in the final three minutes to secure the win, it was a tremendous team win for us.

Justin Fazio turned aside 11 third period shots, including a dandy opportunity off the stick of Kevin Hancock, to preserve the lead. The Sarnia native finished the night with 31 saves, good for first star honours.

The Sting begin the season with back to back home wins, this time in front of 2490 fans at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena Friday night.

Sarnia has a week off until they host the Ottawa 67's on Friday, September 30.
