Downtown Brewery Rezoning Approved

The Refined Fool Brewing Company has received a glowing endorsement for expansion.

Sarnia council commended the city's first craft brewery for it's success thus far and approved its request to amend the city's official plan and zoning bylaw for a second location at the former Sarnia This Week building on Christina St.

Councillor Anne-Marie Gillis was impressed with the amount of work put into their application.

"I like this proposal because of the professionalism of the way it was presented to us," said Gillis.

Co-owner Nathan Colquhoun told council they are committed to revitalizing Sarnia's downtown and providing jobs.

He said that's why they spent $26,000 to make sure all community needs were met in their 202 page application.

Councillor Gillis said she appreciated the fact that type of money was put into the application.

"That much diligence was done, that much effort was put forward, because you realize that you are business people, you are professional and you want to develop and have a quality product. All of those details that you went into and spent your money on, is going to serve you very well," said Gillis.

The site at 153 Christina St. S will be rezoned light industrial and focus on mass production for restaurant and LCBO deliveries.

An event centre for concerts, special events and weddings is also planned.
