Bluewater International Granfondo Set For Sunday

The first ever Bluewater International Granfondo cycling event is ready to roll with over 500 riders taking part.

Sunday's event features 50 km, 100 km, and 150 km races, with proceeds going to St. Joseph's Hospice and Bluewater Health Palliative Care.

Volunteer Co-Ordinator Dick Felton says most of the riders are local but some are coming from BC, Quebec, and the U.S.

He says there are a number of volunteers helping with the event.

"We have route marshalls, we have water stations, and we have the start/finish area that we have to man," says Felton. "The route marshalls are probably the most important to make sure people stay safe at the crossings and go the right way. We'll have about 520 water stations set up."

Felton says the 150 km gets underway at 7am from Mike Weir Park. The 100 km race is at 8am followed by the 50 km at 9:30am.

There's an after ride party beginning at 12pm in Mike Weir Park featuring bands, food and beer.
