Public Board To Hire More Teachers

The Lambton Kent District School Board will be hiring over a dozen new high school teachers this September.

Human Resources Superintendent Phil Warner says 28 elementary and 31 secondary instructors will retire at the end of this school year.

"There will be no new hires in the elementary panel because of declining enrollment and part-time teachers moving to full time positions," says Warner.

"However, the board will be hiring 12 new secondary instructors, the first time that has occurred since 2012."

In all, 101 employees including custodians, secretaries, E.A.s and other support staff will be retiring.

Warner says there will be new hires in some of those areas as well.

There were 871 elementary teachers on the payroll with the public board last year. That will drop to 854 this September.

In the secondary panel, the number of teachers will drop from 521 to 513 at the beginning of the new school year.
