Longtime Sarnia Cop Retires

Another veteran Sarnia Police officer has retired.

Scott MacLean began pounding the beat 34 years ago and rose steadily through the ranks, ending his career as a Staff Sergeant in the Criminal Investigations Division.

He was point man on several homicide cases including one in 2007 that ended in conviction, even though the body of the deceased was never found.

A jury took only one hour before finding Thomas Moffit guilty of the second-degree murder of his girlfriend, Shelley Mathieu-Read.

MacLean was a constable in 1986 when he was assigned to a new non-profit, community driven program aimed at solving cases.

He successfully embedded Crime Stoppers in the community and since then it has led to the arrest of hundreds of criminals, with the recovery of hundreds of thousands of dollars in stolen property and illicit drugs.
